Welcome to The Lemon Grove newsletter, in which we hope to inspire you to get out of the kitchen and into a movie theatre to watch a new film and consider the life of Lee Miller. The enigmatic Miller was an American in Europe during the 1930s and 40s and is best known for documenting the violence and shame of World War II in France and Germany. In this issue, we offer a glimpse into a fascinating woman working and living in a turbulent time of artistic expression and freedom, disrupted and destroyed by the rise of Nazism and its hatred of peoples, creativity and art.
We’ll also look at the upcoming Terra Madre event in Turin, Italy. Organised by Slow Food International, it brings thousands of small-scale farmers and producers from around the world to share experiences and promotes sustainable farming and food production processes. Held every two years, the show is an immersive experience into the lives of farmers from asa diverse countries as Peru, Zimbabwe and Uzbekistan. I’ve been lucky enough to attend three times,
