Each year, Christine Hall, ex-TV executive and now the proud owner of the Giddy Grocer shop on south London’s Bermondsey Street, invites locals to submit their season’s marmalade for judging by three of her friends and suppliers. This year, judges included Sarah Wyndham Lewis, honey sommelier and judge for the Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste Awards. Once a local herself, Sarah was there with her partner and co-founder of Bermondsey Bees, Dale Gibson.

I was there to report on and record the marmalade awards (a full report will be in your inbox shortly). But while scores for the marmalade comp were being totted up, I requisitioned Dale and quizzed him about his range of Bermondsey Bee honey. Giddy Grocer is the only brick-and-mortar store where you can stock up on this REAL honey. You can hear our conversation via the above link. (P.S. I did buy a jar of the deliciously floral Royal Albert Docks honey, winner of a three-star Great Taste award in 2020).
More about the Giddy Grocer Marmalade Awards is coming shortly.
